hellohellohello! hope everyone's good :) don't think junyi's turned into a fruit bat he's jus always been one no? haha anyway here're some pictures of york :) which is a really nice place and my housemates who are nice poeple but haiyah we're jus different la so being here has been a pretty crap experience so far but im getting used to it O_o

they're all brits and really loud and funny but because they're all brits and really loud and funny im like damn out of place cuz im this mousy oriental girl bahhh. alcohol here is fantastically cheap though, and they drink a fantastic lot of it. i like my room (but i've only jus packed it up after my printer arrived today so i shall upload photos of that later) and lessons here are quite a change. really must speak up and it's weird to have to start getting into the school frame of mind all over again. just submitted an essay today so eeek shall have to see how that goes because i have no idea what the standard is like. alright am too lazy to cook so i shall go have some instant noodles for dinner (or "tea" if you wanna follow the very confusing method some brits label their meals - breakfast, dinner, tea - so enid blyton!) take care everyone!

ahhhhhhhhhh! my arabic test was RUBBIIIIISH. so terrible i feel so sad. can people come and visit me! and i dont think there are any ipho people here! i want ipho people! ipho people! then i can make everyone eat kebabs which are prac the only edible thing around here other than pizza and fish and chips. okay, sometimes even the chips are crap. if youre in sg youre lucky! argh! how was the steamboat?

i just had a test on wed. and i spelt a word wrong. sigh. oh well, my other classmates said they made silly mistakes too. but the sick irony is that i spelt the "alykum" of "assalamu alykum" wrongly and we say that EVERY SINGLE DAY.

...and my prof is really awesome. and i laugh every single lesson without fail. (often stifled/suppressed giggles) i don't know why. maybe 'cause mistakes in language are much much funnier than mistakes in math. really.

but after all, a bougainvilla, by any other name, will still be as majnoonah.

i'm doing double maj in econs and physics!!! raaahhh!! the maths is so hard... but anyhoo, yes so i was saying, here's evidence that physics and econs are related. see right, if u take the x-axis to represent both level of scrutiny (as in my econs notes as shown in fig 1.1) and distance from center of gravity of a planet, and y-axis to represent cost to society (as in my econs notes as shown in fig1.aiyah same lah) and acceleration due to gravity or Gforce - whichever - and u take the curves of 2 bodies (like 2 commodities or 2 planets or whatever)... then they look the same!!! *gaspeth*

the hostels

so was studying in ntu on sat. i noe i noe it was a dam nerd ting to do but if i dun study like a nerd, i won't get my honours n then i'll haf to become a teacher n knowing how much i hate teenagers and kids, the thought of having to spend my life surrounded by these societal banes will drive me to suicide and my presence will no longer enrich ur lives. this in turn will lead to ur lives turning bad and....so u shld applaud me for studying on sat. ANYWAY!hahaha...i went for dinner at canteen 3 - which is the canteen at the halls we stayed in - and jus walking through that place brought back a flood of memories! gosh! i sooo miss living in the halls wif u guys! we were a mini community and it was so much fun! like going for tv watching sessions with shirin, seeing boney and all the other gals on my floor during the teeth brushing ceremony, having those super late bus meetings, playing badminton and not forgetting watching the soccer match at the NIE courts. sigh sigh sigh..it was so barren when i went there, it made my heart sink. hmmmm..it was nice eh..like every morning wake up and have at least five ppl greet u. oh well...peace out!

helloooo everbodeeee... i arrived safely in michigan and went running around the university town with my father today... ooh and before we left for the US, he bought me a nice new camera! yay! so now ur gonna get many more photos from me! (compared to ipho, which was like...nothing)

oh but first, i must say that one thing: mad people in america can be sent to 2 places - the mental institution, or a job in the airport... seriously... airport people are INSANE. and it's kinda unnerving when americans use their handphones and drink stuff in the area where these things are restricted. if they followed the airport staff's instructions, they needn't be paranoid about terrorists trying to blow their domestic planes up. sigh. i think it's a foretaste of the paradox that is america.

moving on to happier things, here's some pics of the uni town! =D

this, to state the obvious, is the michigan union. it's kinda like a clubhouse thing for past and present students. it's really posh on the inside (probably because i think anything with warm wood panelling is posh).

the university is almost 200 years old but most of the hostels have new-ish blocky architechure... BUT... the UMich law school is SOOOO PRETTTYYYYYY.... almost makes me wish i went to law school here. almost. but cannot. lawyers are evil. so here's some pics. of the law school. not the lawyers.

saw the hydro-technology (can't rembember what it's called exactly) engineering research lab too but that one wasn't so pretty. it looks quite modern with large sleek black glass panelling. from where i was standing (near the ground basically) it wasn't very photogenic.

ok... i think blogger is blocking me from uploading more pictures... sigh. oh well... gonna go shopping now for random stuff in the mall. =)

my near-ipho experience

yesterday i was outside the house waiting for my bus when this friendly lady from johor just started chatting me up for no reason. soon this entire troupe of korean tourists swept into the busstop tittling in korean and, thanks to the johor lady who gave them the best directions she could - and also to a coincidence that we were all headed to paragon - i got on the bus and ended up sitting amid the koreans (the johor lady had dissolved into the rear of the bus) making convo with them.

i helped them figure out how to pay bus fare and straightened out a misunderstanding between them and the bus uncle (these bus people are all crazy... seriously... it's like mandatory for them to misunderstand people or something) then their english-speaking leader asked me about school, and learning chinese. and then i talked to his brother in chinese, because he'd been studying the language in china for the last 2 years. twas interesting how the english-speaking leader spoke no chinese and his brother spoke no english. and i spoke no korean. it was like some life-size venn diagram... haha. we did a little exchange too, cause they taught me a little korean which i've clean forgotten by the time this blogpost gets published.

and it was interesting also how they somehow assumed i was a uni student, when they asked what my "major" was... hmmm...

anyway, after i directed them off the bus at paragon, the thanked me with genuine smiles and affability and for a fleeting moment, i felt like the slo of the entire korean football team... (oh sometimes i wish i was... ahn jung hwaaaaan!!! hahaha)

my friend (junyi's friend too, andrea) commented that perhaps the reason we all keep having ipho withdrawal symptoms is cause we keep going out together and reliving our experiences with one another... like some self-dillusionary i-don't-want-it-to-end-so-i'll-see-how-far-i-can-prolong-this disorder. the revelation of which is embarrassing but true.

but i can't help it, can i? and i think i speak for everyone here.

so i was thinkin about the chicken ting we were talking about at the appreciation dinner. For the benefit of those who weren't there, i was being told that KFC kills its chickens by hanging them upside down and clobbering/bashing them to death( or something to that effect). But zee problem is, KFC is halal and so doesn't it have to kill it's chickens by cutting of its throats?And then they hang it upside down to drain it of its blood? yea? good yea? good? yea?
I've been lied to!!!my feelings, my poor poor feelings! How cld i have ever trusted yall???

my day at work

today was a good day at work. i fixed a broken stapler so now it's mine. up till now i'd been surviving my job (which requires me to staple things on a daily basis) without my own personal stapler. so i go around the office stealing people's staplers. but now i have my own! yay!

sigh. i got scolded by my boss today at work, but not for stealing staplers. evidently her scolding me does nothing to improve my productivity and she seems to enjoy glaring at me while i pretend to squirm. i do that only so she can enjoy herself for a while, then leave me alone.

i miss working for ipho.

interestingly, kyrgyzstan i suspect is the only country on our bus that is a declared democratic republic. tajikistan is officially a republic but effectively is a democratic one and lithuania is kinda similar.
darn. i was hoping for the blog name to be an ironic one...cause i was under the initial impression tt none of our darling countries are democratic republics...since kuwait and saudi are monarchies and russia is...well...heh...
